An Illinois-based upscale casual restaurant chain plans to expand in Kansas City’s Twin Creeks Village, its third metro location.
An 11,040-square-foot freestanding location for Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants is reflected in final plans filed in late December for a portion of the Twin Creeks Village development northwest of Platte Purchase Drive and Tiffany Springs Road. Cooper’s Hawk would occupy about 2.4 acres at the intersection; the plans also call for a 5,800-square-foot multitenant retail building on another lot just west.
Founded in 2005
Founded in 2005 by CEO Tim McEnery, Cooper’s Hawk has 62 locations nationwide, with five more — not counting the Northland site — coming soon, according to its website. Around Kansas City, the chain has restaurants at 4686 Broadway on the Country Club Plaza, and 540 NW Chipman Road in Lee’s Summit, which respectively opened in 2012 and 2022.
Cooper’s Hawk’s menu features steak, poultry, seafood, burgers, salads and surf-and-turf dishes, among other items. The company’s winery produces around 700,000 cases of wine each year, available at its restaurants’ tasting rooms.
In an email, a Cooper’s Hawk spokesperson said the planned Twin Creeks location would feature a “modern artisanal” design influenced by working wineries of Napa Valley and will stand out compared with the chain’s other locations.
Its flourishes are to include a main entry tower with a take on a gabled roof with glazing and bottle display; olive green and taupe exterior colors offset by copper accents through sconces and lighting; and crafted looking ceiling features and textural finishes. The plans reflect seating for as many as 318 people in the restaurant’s dining, bar and outdoor patio areas, as well as 176 parking spaces.
The Cooper’s Hawk restaurant would sit south of the newly opened Platte Purchase Middle School and acreage master-planned for 383 single-family homes. South across Tiffany Springs Road is Sporting Kansas City’s Central Bank Sporting Complex, which opened in April, and a 41-acre site Oddo Development bought in May for a mixed-use community with 350 apartments and a commercial district.
Cooper’s Hawk construction began in June 2024 and will last 24 weeks.
